The Studio Competition Team.

What joining involves.

Dancers continue their recreational classes alongside team rehearsals, choreography and competitions. Every student is welcome to audition; teachers may also invite dancers who show commitment in class.

Know the commitment first.

Request the rehearsal schedule, team fees, costume costs and competition entries before deciding. These are shared at the informational meeting and by request.

How the audition works

Auditions take place over two days in early July. On learning day, dancers learn a 30–45 second routine. On audition day, they perform in small groups and show individual skills.

Skills include single and double pirouettes, a toe touch, four grand battements, a grand jeté and any special skills.

Groups are ages 4–6, 7–9, 10–13 and 14+, with separate boys’ sessions. Exact times are posted when dates are set.

What to wear to the audition
  • All-black top and bottoms
  • Jazz shoes, or hip hop shoes for boys’ groups
  • Hair pulled back, with bangs and flyaways clipped
